Join us for this workshop designed for primary teachers who want to make learning more playful, engaging and connected to the outside world.
Drawing on the latest insights from the Primary Curriculum Framework and Ireland’s Literacy and Numeracy Strategy this session explores how outdoor play can become a powerful tool for language development, mathematical thinking and holistic learning across the primary stages.
- Discover how outdoor environments – whether a school garden, car park or local park can nurture freedom, creativity and confidence in children. Learn practical strategies to embed outdoor learning within your school’s context.
- Learn how to use picture books and storytelling to spark meaningful conversations, vocabulary growth and narrative development through outdoor experiences and role play.
- Experience playful ways to connect maths and the outdoors – from maths trails and data collection in nature, to shape, space and measure investigations.
- See how outdoor play supports cross-curricular learning in literacy, SESE and the arts and how digital tools can enhance real-world exploration.
Whether you teach infants or senior classes this will assist you to make the most of the playground, local environment or yard space available to you in your teaching setting.
The session will be presented by Catherine Murray who is an experienced infant teacher and principal.
