Morphology Instruction Across the Grade Levels and Content Areas:

“The Best Kept Secret” In Vocabulary Building"

In this workshop, we will discuss why effective morphology instruction may be the “best kept secret” in building your students’ vocabulary knowledge. Knowledge of just one high-utility affix or root, such as -spect-, can be the key to unlocking the meaning scores of words; with morphology instruction, a little goes a long way.

You’ll leave this workshop with:

(1) general principles of effective morphology instruction,

(2) the 5 key morphological key your students need to know,

(3) why the term “root word” might be confusing for your students,

(4) instructional strategies at all grade levels that you can use tomorrow

(5) how knowledge of affixes and roots can support learning across the content areas and disciplines.
