Inspiring a Love of Reading - Webinar

“It’s not just about learning to read, it’s about learning to love books.” (Rosen, 2014)

 For Primary teachers and SNAs.

With the arrival of the Primary Language Curriculum, inspiring our children as lovers of reading has been placed firmly on the literacy learning agenda once again. In fact, Engagement, Motivation and Choice are now included specifically as Learning Outcomes.

The focus of this talk will be on supporting teachers in encouraging children to read for pleasure and it will cover a number of key areas:

- The classroom, school and local library

- Recommended reads

- Practical classroom ideas

- Creating a dialogue around books

- Teachers as readers

Duncan Mc Carthy is Deputy Principal in St. Anthony's BNS. He has spent the last number of years supporting teachers and schools as a Literacy Advisor with the PDST, a member of the Literacy Association of Ireland Executive Committee and a provider of courses for Cork Education Support Centre.
