22-4208 Google Workspace for Education Learning Day in CBC

Christian Brothers College (CBC) Cork in collaboration with Cork Education Support Centre and West Cork Education Centre.



All things Google at CBC Cork! Whether you are new to Google or an experienced user, we will have something for you at this event on May 25th from 14:00 at Christian Brothers College, Cork.

There will be an insight into the strategy of the college who will talk about why Google Workspace is at the heart of their offering for their learners.

There will be taster sessions on Google Workspace basics; using Google Sites for portfolios; making the most of Google Slides and a session on accessibility features in Chrome to help support students with specific needs.

We will finish the event by looking at what new developments are coming down the line that schools and colleges need to be aware of.

The workshops:

David Dowling - Looking at how the use of Google Sites can make the curation of a host of different materials. By the end of this session, delegates will have created a Google site of their own.

Martin Boyle / Claire Cotter - A practical experience of the core tools of Google Workspace. For anyone with little or no prior knowledge of the tools. 

Donal O Mahony - This session will look at what are the elements that need to be included in a digital strategy and how you use this improvement focus of Digital Learning Plan, lessons learnt along the way and what the next steps are. - Digital Learning Framework & The Digital Strategy for Schools to 2027

Elizabeth Kelliher/ Dr. David Roy - There are a host of advanced tools and functions that can bring many benefits in Google Workspace e.g. slides. Come along and learn some new tips and tricks. This session is aimed at those who are already familiar with Google Workspace.

Refreshments and networking - Some light snacks and a chance to talk to other delegates and the presenters of the event. We would love it if you were able to join us and tell us your story.


About the presenters:

Donal O’ Mahony

Prior to his present role, Donal was a Maths and ICT teacher in his current school for over twenty years. Donal is currently Deputy Principal in Christian Brothers College.  He has fifteen years teaching experience where he achieved the top result in Ireland in Leaving Certificate Honours Maths 3 times.  He also completed the Instructional Leadership and Learning Powered Schools programmes. Donal is the current Cork Under-20 Hurling manager. Donal is passionate about teaching and learning and has enjoyed leading his school in digital learning in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.



Edmond Hussey

Edmond Hussey is a Geography teacher in Christian Brothers College. Edmond is an active advocate for use of mobile tablet devices as a learning tool, in particular the use of Digital Learning Platforms especially Google Workspace for Education. Edmond is passionate about teaching and learning and has enjoyed leading his school in digital learning over the past five years. Edmond is a Google Certified Educator Level 1, Level 2 and working towards Google Certified Trainer.


Martin Boyle

Martin Boyle is a history teacher at Christin Brothers College, Cork. Martin has spent the previous five years teaching in the UK, working as a history teacher and head of year. He previously ran CPD sessions for the Buckinghamshire Learning Trust on engagement and behaviour management strategies. Martin is a Google Certified Educator Level 1.


Claire Cotter

Claire Cotter is an English and History teacher in Christian Brothers College, Cork. She also works as the school’s SEN Coordinator. Claire holds a Masters Degree in International Relations from The School of History at UCC. She co-hosts a popular weekly podcast entitled “What’s The History?”. Claire has over twelve years experience teaching history and english at Junior and Senior Cycle. She is currently a member of the Digital Learning Team in CBC and wishes to launch herself into the Digital World and learn on the job! Claire is working toward google educator status.


Dr. David Roy

David Roy is a history and english teacher. Since joining Christian Brothers College in 2020 and subsequently the Digital Learning Team, he has developed a keen interest in Digital Media Literacy (DML) to enhance his lessons using a wide range of digital resources. He is currently training for the Google Certified Educator Level 1. David has a passion and enthusiasm for DML while sharing resources online with fellow educators. 


Elizabeth Kelliher

Elizabeth is currently teaching French and Business Studies. She is passionate about digital skills education and seeks to promote good use of technology for teaching and learning in the classroom. In her current role as member of the Digital learning Team, she plays a key role in the creation and implementation of the school's Digital Learning Plan. Elizabeth is working towards her Google Certified Educator, Level 1 status.


David Dowling

David is a Geography and Digital Technology teacher who began teaching in 2019. David has been a member of the Digital Learning Team since joining the school, assisting teachers and students to integrate Google tools meaningfully and effectively into their teaching and learning journeys. David is a Google Certified Educator Level 1.
