Professional Learning Networks for SENCOs working in Post Primary schools.

This is the second meeting of the Cork Post Primary SENCO Forum, a community of practice for Cork SENCOs. The forum aims to provide professional learning, support and networking opportunities for SENCOs and SETs. Kevin, Dan and Johanna will facilitate the forum and will support its development over time. The practical implementation of the forum will be decided by its members and professional learning needs will also be identified by members. If you are a SET or a SENCO in a post primary school in Cork and would like to build collegial and supportive relationships with fellow SENCOs, and contribute to a community of practice and learning, please join us.
Dr. Kevin Cahill is Co-Director of the Postgraduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs in the School of Education, University College Cork. He lectures across teacher education programmes whilst also supervising, researching and writing in inclusive education and cognate areas. Kevin comes from a post-primary teaching background having worked as a SET & SENCO for many years.
Dr Dan O’Sullivan is a lecturer at the School of Education, University College Cork. He lectures on inclusion-related issues on a range of postgraduate teacher education programmes. He is Co-Director of the Postgraduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs programme. His research interests centre on inclusive schooling, literacies, assessment, initial teacher education, and the induction and continuing professional development of teachers.
Dr. Johanna Fitzgerald is Head of Educational Psychology, Inclusive and Special Education in Mary Immaculate College. She lectures and supervises research across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. She is also involved in some knowledge and research exchange initiatives with schools. Her current research interests include educational leadership and the SENCO role; teacher professional learning; and the importance of inter-professional collaboration and education to improve outcomes for learners with additional needs.She worked as a post-primary teacher and SENCO for a number of years and was an Assistant National Coordinator with the SESS.
