Professional Learning Networks for SENCOs working in Post Primary schools.

This session aims to bring together a network of SENCOs teaching in Cork Post Primary schools. The network aims to provide professional learning, support and networking opportunities for teachers. Kevin, Dan and Johanna will facilitate the establishment of the network and will support its development over time. The practical implementation of the network will be decided by its members and professional learning needs will also be identified by members.

If you are a special education teacher or a SENCO in a post primary school  in Cork and would like to find out more about the network please join us.


Dr. Johanna Fitzgerald

Dr. Johanna Fitzgerald is Head of Educational Psychology, Inclusive and Special Education in Mary Immaculate College. She lectures across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education programmes. She worked as a post-primary teacher and SENCO for a number of years, both in Ireland and the UK. She also worked with the SESS as an Assistant National Coordinator. She is involved with a number of research and outreach projects with both the JMB and ETBI, and is Chairperson of the JMB SEN Advisory Group. She also provides CPD to post-primary schools. She is Chairperson of the MIC SENCO Forum, a post primary professional learning network which was established in 2015.

Dr. Dan O'Sullivan

Dr. Dan O’Sullivan is a lecturer at the School of Education, University College Cork. He lectures on inclusion-related issues on a range of postgraduate teacher education programmes. He is Co-Director of the Postgraduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs programme. His research interests centre on inclusive schooling, literacies, assessment, initial teacher education, and the induction and continuing professional development of teachers.

Dr. Kevin Cahill

Kevin is Co-Director of the Postgraduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs in the School of Education, University College Cork. He lectures across teacher education programmes whilst also supervising, researching and writing in inclusive education and cognate areas. Kevin comes from a post-primary teaching background having worked as a SET & SENCO for many years.
