This is a three-part elective CPD opportunity developed and led by Dr Patrick Johnson, lecturer in Mathematics Education in the School of Education at the University of Limerick, in partnership with the JCT Mathematics Team. Over the three sessions, participants will explore the potential of mathematical modelling to support the teaching and learning of problem-solving, drawing on real-world phenomena, in Junior Cycle Mathematics.
The first workshop will focus on problem solving and aims to enhance participants ability to analyse problems, recognise appropriate mathematical tools and develop and solve models for the problems. The second and third workshop will enhance participants understanding of the mathematical modelling process whilst simultaneously improving their ability to formulate appropriate mathematical models and to appreciate their limitations. Teachers of Junior Cycle Mathematics are welcome to attend individually or with colleagues from their subject department.
