Resilience for Teachers and Students. Applying Art therapy principles of process based art making and visual learning strategies to the classroom.
This course aims to provide teachers with a creative modality in which to explore a deeper psychological perspective on relationship to pupils, other teachers and themselves. A focus on pupil and teacher wellbeing is viewed as intrinsic to a holistic view of learning, teaching, career development and sustainability. There will be an emphasis on developing self -care and resilience through reflective art therapy practices including visual Journaling and experiential workshops. This course also aims to develop classroom management skills by providing practical art skills, instructional techniques and assessment practices with an emphasis on process based art making in VA learning. It also looks at how visual art making strategies can be applied across the curriculum. This course is co facilitated by Art therapists, Aideen Cooney (BSocSci, Ma Art Therapy) and Andrea Nagy (Ma psychology, Ma Art Therapy, PHD candidate applied psychology UCC). Andrea and Aideen run the Introductory to art therapy course in UCC and are both practicing art therapists.
