Inspiring a Love of Reading

“It’s not just about learning to read, it’s about learning to love books.” (Rosen, 2014)

For Primary Teachers and SNAs.

With the arrival of the Primary Language Curriculum, inspiring our children as lovers of reading has been placed firmly on the literacy learning agenda once again. In fact, Engagement, Motivation and Choice are now included specifically as Learning Outcomes.

The focus of this talk will be on supporting teachers in encouraging children to read for pleasure and it will cover a number of key areas:

- The classroom, school and local library

- Recommended reads

- Practical classroom ideas

- Creating a dialogue around books

- Teachers as readers
