ASSESSING PLAY IN THE INFANT CLASSES
When it comes to Play, where do we begin with assessment? Does assessment even cross our minds during this time? How can we assess children playing? Should we assess children playing? This webinar will discuss meaningful and practical assessment methods to support your playful approaches in the classroom.
Learning Outcomes
- Utilise valuable and accessible assessment approaches in the classroom that compliment and cater for the complexity within Play based learning.
- Recognise children’s drawings as a key communication tool while also being a ‘hidden’ form of diverse and informative assessment.
- Teacher observation to obtain ‘live’ data without disturbing the child’s Play.
- Teaching and assessing positive dispositions that align with the new Primary Curriculum Framework.
The tutor Dean Vaughan is a primary school teacher. He has a B.Ed, M.Ed. in Aistear and PG. Dip in Leadership & Management. Dean is a primary school teacher that has spent most of his teaching career in the infant classroom. He has a Masters in expressive language skills through Play and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Management. Dean is passionate about playful approaches to teaching and learning in the classroom and works closely with student teachers as a research supervisor and part time lecturer in teaching training colleges.
